Weddings are great. They’re energetic, emotional and full of fun people and moments–a perfect scenario for a documentary photographer like myself. Themed weddings, though, add an extra layer of omg-ness to an already exciting and beautiful day. When I heard Danica and Damon (you might recognize them from this Road Trip Sessions post) were getting hitched before he heads off to Air Force basic training, I jumped at the chance to once again photograph this stunning couple. When they told me they were having a Where the Wild Things Are theme AND their five dogs would be in attendance, I practically passed out. I’m drawn to unique weddings like this because they really bring out the couple’s personality, and the unconventional details make my creative brain fire away. The ceremony and reception were held at Damon’s family residence in Blackfoot, and the feeling was ethereal with touches of whimsy. Danica has Eritrean heritage and the decor reflected a fabulous blend of story book and cultural details. I set up the Instant Film Photo Booth along with shooting the wedding and we got some amazingly fun photos. These wild things sure knew how to tie the knot in style.
